We feed our babies the natural dog foods nothing with by-products in them,, I have switched to Eathborn Holistic dog food , and this is an excellent dog food,, I did use a name brand for years until I did some research on the kinds of dog food that are out there, and my dogs did pretty good on it, it was also a brand my vet said to use, After I started to Eathborn Holicstic brand my dogs coats improved so much I could not believe it. I leave all my Shih Tzu long coated and their coats got thicker and silkier and the color improved. They also had less stool, So believe it or not the food you feed does make a big difference. Puppies should be on puppy food until their are around 8 months old, Shih Tzu also should not have a food with high protein we use the 27 %
Do not feed your puppy or dog any kind of rawhide in any form, it can cause stomach problems and there are a lot of things you can get for them to chew on besides rawhide,, I use the calf hoofs, Milk bones, bacon strips ect, , I also don't give my puppies or dogs table scraps that is not good for them, Use small pieces of chicken breast or sometimes some beef without fat,

5 tips to Housetrain your Shih Tzu. [ 1.] Use a kennel crate, a kennel crate, it is a plastic travel cage , dogs are den animals especially small dogs that like a safe secure place to call their own.The kennel crate provides your dog with a bed of its own while preventing accidents, dogs do not want to soil where they sleep. Your Shih Tzu can stay in its crate through the night and for an hour or two during the day. [ 2.] Restrict the dog's access throughout the house. When your dog is in the house with you, make sure it can't sneak off to another room to have an accident. Keep your Shih Tzu close to you by closing doors, putting up baby gates or even having it on the leash with you, [ 3.]. Set up a schedule. Take your dog outside at regular times. It should go out first thing in the morning after eating, play times and naps. and at consitstent,regular intervals during the day [4]. Go outside with your dog;, If you simply send your dog outside by itself how do you know whether your dog has relieved itself? Go out with your dog, tell it go potty" and wait, when your dog has done what needs to be done, praise the dog and bring it inside with you. If your dog doesn't go put him back in its crate , Shortly thereafter take your dog back outside and repeat the exercise. If your dog doesn't go do not let it wander in the house freely or it will probably find a quiet spot to go indoors. [5] Don't correct your dog after the fact: if you find a puddle, don't rub your dog's nose in it or yell at it, If you catch your dog at it's squatting, yes interrupt it and take it outside, Correcting after the fact it is to late and can confuse the pup simply clean up the mess and supervise the pup more closely. Grooming your Shih Tzu, start with your puppy be for its hair gets long, your puppy's fuzzy coat usually doesn't tangle. That's the best time to teach him that brushs and combsfeel good. Although adult coats need a pin brush to navigate through the hair you can start out with a soft brush on your puppy. Gently bruch him all over, back, tummy, feet, tail and head.Give him treats, Tell him he's a good baby make if fun. He'll look forward to grooming instead of fearing it.. Whatever the length of your dog's coat bruch and comb him at least every couple of days. Different Shih Tzu have different coat textures, some even in a short trim need cobling every day.. Start with a bruch that is strong enough to get into the coat, but soft enough to be gentle on your dog skin. Pin brushes, slickers , find what works best for you and your dog. Be sure to bruch all over the body, not just the back and sides, legs and under tail everwhere it's the hidden places that are likely to develop the worst mats if you are not careful, bruch then comb every single hair on his body. If he is ling coated bruch one layer at a time. Separate coat into sections, working from the tummy up to the top..Every day bruch out any bits of food that might have become attached to your Shih Tzu's muzzle. Wipe around his eyes with a damp cloth to keep his face aclean, Bath twice a month unless he gets real dirty and needs it in between, use cotton in ears to keep water out, use a good dog shampoo and contitioner and never use human shampoos
There are several differant clips for Shih Tzu, the Cocker Clip which is trimmed on back and his legs and tail is keeped long or the puppy clip with is cut all over to an even length or the show which is long all over.

Never buy puppies especially small breeds for small children, children can harm a puppy sometimes fatally, I have had some bad eperiences with puppys and children is why I well not sell my puppies to people with small children, I had one couple 2 years ago that got a Shih Tzu puppy from me, they had two children 5 and 6, they said they would watch the kids around the puppy they didn't, The puppy ended up with a broken leg and ribs due to the kids kicking and jumping on the puppy, of course the people blamed the puppy saying it was biteing the kids, what puppy does not bite and chew until they are taught not to, and I don't mean hitting them to teach them, that is just one example of some of the cases I have heard and seen with puppies and small children, I have two great granddaughter 6 and 1 but they are watch with my dogs when they are with them,

Which is better Male of Female, Although many people like the little female simply because that is all they have owned or heard they are better pets, males most often make the better family pet, They are not as independant as a female nor do they have the moods that females seem to go through. Males like to love females like to be loved. Males should be neutered when ther are about 4 to 5 months of age this pretty much stops the lifting of the legs in the house, I have sold a lot of males and when this is done they make a much better house pet.. Females should also be spayed at 6 months before they come in the first heat, as they make a better pet to, there is no coming in season every six months and going thru the mess and worry about them breeding when you don't want them to, no mistakes,
